How to find your true passion?
Hi Jen,
I was recently laid off quite unexpectedly and feel like now is as good a time as any to perhaps figure out what I am actually passionate about. I have had a successful and lucrative career but something was always missing. Mind you, I am much older (life flies by the way!) and have always been and still am the advise giver to many. Yet, here I am trying to take a second to myself and really figure it out even if it is only a hobby.
What I find admirable is your passion for what you do - you clearly enjoy fashion, blogging and, most of all, life, which you document also with passion. Anyway, I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Continue doing what you do - you are a bright and talented person with an even brighter future ahead. So pop the champaign (or mimosas) and celebrate being you!
Hey ****!
Thanks so much for your kind words and reaching out to chat.
I’m sorry to hear about getting laid off unexpectedly... but I really love your positive attitude.
It sucks that it happened, but now it’s up to you to turn this around to start living a life and working a career that you’re passionate about! It’s a blessing in disguise.
First off, I think a lot of people go through life without finding their “true passion”… and to be honest I think a lot of it has to do with the mindset. Sure there are some people that KNOW what they want to do pretty early on, or are very gifted in certain areas… (lucky them) but the majority of people settle into jobs they don’t enjoy because of financial security. Understandably so to a certain extent… I mean, you do have to be able to afford to live. I get that.
However I feel like finding passion and true success comes from an internal drive to want a better life, and refusing to settle for anything less than everything you’ve wanted. Whether that’s in relationships, health, your career, etc…
... it seems like you have a bit of that drive, so that’s a good first step =)
Now, how do you find your “true passion?”
I can’t give you a black and white answer for that. However I do know the importance of gravitating towards what you love.
… “yes but what is that?”
Well, what do you enjoy? Take out a piece of paper, and start writing down your thoughts about it.
Do you like to write, workout, cook, do arts & crafts? Do you enjoy working with animals or people… do you see yourself working under someone or intrigued by the idea of starting something of your own? Any likes or dislikes that come to your head, jot it all down.
Now when I say, “if I could snap my fingers and you could be anything in the world you wanted to be. What would it be?” … what’s the first career that pops into your head?
Even if it seems random, or completely unattainable… don’t ever underestimate yourself. With passion and drive, you can truly be successful in anything. I’m a firm believer in that.
One of my favorite quotes:
Isn’t it great? And it’s so true! How many people do you know of that have been stuck in a 9-5 job that they hate? Waking up day in and day out, robotically driving to work, staring at the clock all day waiting for the 5:00 o’clock tick.
No thank you.
I understand that bills need to be paid, but I also understand that with big risk comes bigger reward. I’d rather be busting my ass and pinching pennies creating a life I love rather than the comfort of a desk job and a steady paycheck.
But hey that’s just me. #EntrepreneurAtHeart
I wish you all the best! Keep me posted on your endeavors… stay positive, stay determined, stay driven... and never lose that spark of wanting better for yourself.
Cheers to you,
Jen
